S.A.F.E. Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center

Jan Rogers, Tracey Steely, and Sena Whitlow

This week, member spotlight is on S.A.F.E.’s Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center.

Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center is a program of Support in Abusive Family Emergencies, Inc. (S.A.F.E.), a non-profit organization funded by state and federal agencies and by local contributions. Their mission is to provide a child-focused, community response to child abuse. The Center serves the communities of Towns and Union counties. By establishing a child-first approach, the goal is to create a safe environment for children to talk about what has happened to them. Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center offers support to families during critical times in their lives. The Center is a place that allows for the healing to begin.

Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center offers a variety of services including forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, counseling, supervised visitations, training, community education, and support groups. They work hand-in-hand with the Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse programs of S.A.F.E. where Sena Whitlow serves as the Victim Advocate and Suzie Adelmann as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Jan Rogers is the Program Director for the center. Janet Kowalski is Therapist and Family Visitation Coordinator and Tracy Steely is Prevention Specialist (and also the Family Advocate for the CAC).

Knowing that violence is a learned behavior, the Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center has an excellent research-based curriculum that covers topics such as parenting skills, safety, communication skills, healthy relationships, bullying, decision making, and handling of all emotions. The Center offers “Stop It Now, GA!” and “Adults and Children Together (ACT) Against Violence”. The Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center can even do a presentation on stress management! The presentations are tailored to meet the needs of all age groups, starting with pre-K and continuing up to adult education. Enotah Child Advocacy and Family Visitation Center is available to all sectors of the community. The goal of the prevention program is to work with the community to increase a violence-free atmosphere. Tracy says, “Together we can do just that!”
