This week, member spotlight is on Harriette Bryant and Healthcare Needs.

Healthcare Needs helps people take care of their feet. As a Credentialed Pedorthist, Harriette Bryant provides foot care through proper footwear. A member of the Pedorthic Footwear Association, Harriette’s goal is to alleviate foot problems caused by disease, overuse, congenital defect, or injury. She provides carefully fitted footwear that relieves (or accommodates) temporary and permanent foot problems.

Harriette says, “I help people with their lifestyles. If diabetics don’t take care of their feet, they can lose their mobility. I also work with lots of people that suffer from arthritis. For people with arthritis, pedorthics can be the difference between being able to watch, and being able to do. The benefits are enormous.”

Pedorthics is the design, manufacture, modification, and fit of footwear, including foot orthoses. As a Pedorthist, Harriette works as part of the allied heath care team, dispensing footwear to help keep people as mobile as possible. She works primarily with prescription footwear, but can also provide over-the-counter inserts when custom work isn’t necessary. Harriette often refers clients to health care providers before a potential foot problem becomes a major one.

When a foot requires medical attention, footwear becomes a factor in the patient’s treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation. It’s a team approach. While the doctor treats your foot, the Pedorthist addresses your footwear needs. The Pedorthist may take a cast of the foot if needed or a model may be computer generated. In addition to addressing lower limb problems, a correctly fitted shoe can address lower back pain, pelvic imbalances, and other limits to physical ability.

Patients may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement by Medicare, Medicaid, Worker’s Compensation, or private insurance if referred by their physician. Healthcare Needs, Inc. is a Medicare Provider.
